In partnership with Applied Economic Strategies, Puregreenjobs.com released an economic study on green jobs in the United States. The purpose of this study is to formerly define a green job and identify green jobs within the United States.
The report concludes that there are at least 3.4 million to 5.5 million green jobs within the U.S. – but there are likely many more, as the analysis undoubtedly under estimates the number of green jobs in the economy due to current occupational classification constraints. The federal government has dedicated over $80 billion in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to clean and renewable energy industries and to prepare workers for green jobs of the future. Surprisingly, there is no standard definition of a green job and due to the wide variations in estimates of the number of these jobs (some ranging from 9 to 12 million), it is difficult to properly target funding. A standard federal definition from the Bureau of Labor Statistics will make it possible for Federal money to be used effectively.
